Stairs Safety Hazard

Stairs that do not have equal distance at the risers (vertical portion of a step) can create a trip hazard. The riser heights should not vary more than 3/8" from the shortest riser to the tallest riser. As you can see in the photo the 3 lower steps are equal in height however the top step is much shorter and this creates a "tripper" condition and could cause the user to fall. This is especially important when the elderly or very young are present.
