Water Heater Vent Not Properly Terminated

A Home Inspection performed on this Denver home discovered this improperly terminated "Y" in the vent previously used by both the furnace and water heater. The conventional gas water heater was replaced by a tankless water heater so the vent connection for the old water heater was no longer needed. The installer decided to terminate the old connection with duct tape instead of either removing the "Y" or capping the old connection with a metal cap designed for this. This condition was noted on the Home Inspection report as a deficiency and will need corrected by a licensed HVAC contractor. It also appeared the main vent did not have the proper rise (too flat) so this was also noted on the Home Inspection Report provided by Denver's Best Home Inspection, David Keating a Certified Master Home Inspector.
